With the right pair of shoes…

As a sister post to today’s OOTD (see below), I’ll share with you a story. Back in February I ruined my favorite, trusty, comfortable-even-when-worn-all-day black pumps. They’d been with me since sometime in high school (who can say that nowadays?), and have seen a shoe doctor once for some reconstructive surgery. In February it was a nice day (side note: my definition of “nice day” has been altered since moving to NY, a “nice day” in February is 50ish degrees, not upwards of 70) so the boyfriend wanted to take me to the boardwalk. Not thinking about my footwear I gleefully agreed. After about a 30 yard walk down the boardwalk I noticed how often my heel had been slipping between the boards. To say I was upset when I saw what was happening to my shoes, well, it would be an understatement. But I downplayed my sadness because it’s not becoming to cry over a pair of shoes in front of the guy you like (especially after only a few weeks, I’m pretty sure that would be a red flag). The damage: the leather on the heel of one left black pump was just too much to bear. Look at that sad face!

Fast forward to today. I could really, really use those black pumps with my job interview and all. But shoe doctors in New York cost waaaaay more than my shoe doctor back in Texas. So I had resolved to sit it out, but what woman in her right mind can go three months without her favorite (and only pair, I might add) black pumps?? I’m taking control of this problem today. Enter zappos.com. After pouring over page after page of high heels, I found this gem.

As a taller-than-your-average female (almost 6 feet, represent!) I need a lower heel. And while stilettos are cute and man-attracting, frankly they hurt like hell. So these are perfect. They’re classic-looking, but not boring. The touch of snakeskin adds a hint of sophistication. If only I’d thought to buy these a week ago. They would go perfectly with my outfit today.

Breaking News!

Brad Goreski is getting his own show on Bravo! I know so, because he just tweeted: “I’m so excited about my show on @bravotv!! Can’t wait to start filming “It’s a Brad Brad World!!” Dream come true!!”

Last fall when he and Rachel Zoe split I posted about wanting him to get his own show. Actually, I think the right word is pining. I’ve been pining for him to get his own show. Anyway, it’s like I’m an oracle! Maybe it’s because Andy Cohen wants to put more gay-boy-man-candy on his late night Bravo couch. Maybe it’s because too many sassy-Brad-deprived girls wrote in begging for him to get a show. All I know is that when I move into an apartment, I’m getting cable so I can tune in.

This is probably the outfit I wear the most… but it’s so comfortable, and although it looks like a plain t-shirt, its actually embellished with pearls and rhinestones so it’s not all that dressed down.

Philip Treacy + Kate Middleton

News broke this weekend that Kate Middleton has asked Philip Treacy to design hats for her wedding party. Brilliant! I’ve done a post about the genius milliner, Philip Treacy and his stunning creations. After a quick glance at the gallery on his website I’ve found a few designs that would be nice for such an occasion as the royal wedding. Of course the pair will come up with something completely original. Wearing couture hats is so British, I can’t wait to see the ultimate product!

Geeking out

Remember the couple times on here when I’ve said how much of an academic I am? Well this is another one of those posts. Except I’m geeking out over the Teri Agins book, The End of Fashion. It came out about 10 years ago… so what. I’m pumped because not only do I have an excuse to read this book, but I’m kind of forced to. Why you may ask? Well it’s simple, really: I’ve chosen it (along with a Virginia Law Review article. yawn? – no way!) as the topic of my independent study. Chyeah!

So if you want to join my cool book clique, suit up and meet my comments section.

Straight up, I went for comfort today. I just lucked out that my comfortable outfits are often pretty cute.

Weather update: I’m pretty sick of the snow. And today ice. The only good it could possibly do is to shut down the subways (leaving me at home to curl up with the magazines my mom just sent me and a cup of tomato soup), but they only get weird enough for the MTA to make ambiguous statements about delays on its website. I don’t want to trek to the train station to wait a half hour for the 7. Rant over.

OOTD

Today I really want to impress the office with my styling because Anna has another visit today. And I bought these new booties this weekend, so I want a great outfit to wear them with.

More snow today, maybe that’s why I’m opting for a floral cardi… It may also be that we just got first bounds for the March 2011 issue, and between that and April layouts I’m looking at lots of spring clothes. I’m preemptively going there.
