Today is so bittersweet! I’ve had an incredible time interning at Teen Vogue and would stay in a heartbeat if the combined issues of college credit/no openings didn’t make that impossible. And as if Hollywood had something to do with it, it’s raining and should be all day. Isn’t that just how it would be in a movie? I thought so too. I was going to wear the same shoes from Monday, but since they’re suede and haven’t been Scotchgard-ed yet I probably shouldn’t. But they would look so much better with the new khakis (that have become my favorite spring-y wardrobe piece). I may stow them in my bag… we’ll see about that.
The significance of this outfit is pretty tremendous, because it’s in the last outfit of my internship I have meetings with a pretty major editor. I think that’s pretty fitting.
I’m not sure how long I’ll continue outfit of the day blogs, I hope it’s something that doesn’t die out, but we’ll see. I know so many of you have followed all of these sartorial choices closely and without you I wouldn’t have kept this up for the duration of my internship.
Breaking news: it is supposed to be 78 and sunny in NYC today!! And we all thought this day would never come… So I’m celebrating by going bare-legged in a fun skirt, but after wearing those shoes yesterday for 12 hours straight (with sub-par bandaids..), my feet need some therapy. Enter my cute and dainty gold sandals. I would be much happier in my nine west mules, but alas I left them in Texas and since I head back in two weeks (just to graduate, I’ll be back) I don’t think I can convince my mom to send them up. Le sigh. But ahhh! it feels so natural to be back in sandals. It’s almost like I never left Texas! Hm, not quite…
It looks like spring may finally have descended upon NYC. Can I get an Amen?! And since yesterday was Easter, the most sartorially significant holiday for Christians, it means showing off your newest and springiest fashion, duh! So with part of today’s outfit, I did just that. The shoes were bought online (delivered to me on Good Friday, is that a sign or what?!) to match the dress I bought for graduation and to attend a spring/summer wedding in right before I head home to Texas. The khakis are also new. I bought them after one of the 70 degree flukes back in February or March (and much to my chagrin, I couldn’t wear them until yesterday…). The two pair better together than I could have thought. And I know I wear this shirt a ton, but, hmm, get over it.
Because shoes are everyone’s favorite…
The took some breaking in yesterday (I know better today – there are band aids stashed in my purse in the case of an emergency), but these might be my favorite pair of spring/summer shoes yet. If you don’t have a neutral sandal yet, go get yourself a pair. You won’t regret it. (photo: Seychelles, $90, zappos.com)
I started out today wearing jeans, but soon realized I should jazz things up more than that. Especially since I’m going to ED2010’s magazine editor networking happy hour tonight! At the last minute I threw my hair up in a bun and added the Ann Taylor pearl/gold chain link necklace; basically I look a thousand times better than I did 15 minutes ago with some simple changes.
And as if I wasn’t already super excited about this event tonight, it’s at this placed called Southern Hospitality, and they have (wait for it….) fried pickles! YUM! I wonder if they have fried mac-n-cheese too (don’t mock what you don’t know).
Can y’all believe it! A high in the (almost) 70s for the second time this week! Spring might not be an urban myth up here after all. I’m opting to forego a coat, that includes my trench, for this cream military-inspired jacket, whose tailoring, btw, is really flattering. And I’m obsessed with its mandarin collar. What’s that? You’d like a closeup on the shoes? Sure!
(Our mirror is super dusty… eww..). While it’s no big deal to wear sandals in February back in Texas, this is the first time I’ve gone open-toed-sans-tights in 2011. I bought these adorable magenta snakeskin sandals a few weeks ago at TJ Maxx ($40 for Ralph Lauren shoes? yes please!) and have been waiting for the day I can break them out. Paired with my new nail polish (the one I bought for my interview, which went well – fingers crossed!), gives me the happiest spring-iest feet/toes ever!
As a sister post to today’s OOTD (see below), I’ll share with you a story. Back in February I ruined my favorite, trusty, comfortable-even-when-worn-all-day black pumps. They’d been with me since sometime in high school (who can say that nowadays?), and have seen a shoe doctor once for some reconstructive surgery. In February it was a nice day (side note: my definition of “nice day” has been altered since moving to NY, a “nice day” in February is 50ish degrees, not upwards of 70) so the boyfriend wanted to take me to the boardwalk. Not thinking about my footwear I gleefully agreed. After about a 30 yard walk down the boardwalk I noticed how often my heel had been slipping between the boards. To say I was upset when I saw what was happening to my shoes, well, it would be an understatement. But I downplayed my sadness because it’s not becoming to cry over a pair of shoes in front of the guy you like (especially after only a few weeks, I’m pretty sure that would be a red flag). The damage: the leather on the heel of one left black pump was just too much to bear. Look at that sad face!
Fast forward to today. I could really, really use those black pumps with my job interview and all. But shoe doctors in New York cost waaaaay more than my shoe doctor back in Texas. So I had resolved to sit it out, but what woman in her right mind can go three months without her favorite (and only pair, I might add) black pumps?? I’m taking control of this problem today. Enter zappos.com. After pouring over page after page of high heels, I found this gem.
As a taller-than-your-average female (almost 6 feet, represent!) I need a lower heel. And while stilettos are cute and man-attracting, frankly they hurt like hell. So these are perfect. They’re classic-looking, but not boring. The touch of snakeskin adds a hint of sophistication. If only I’d thought to buy these a week ago. They would go perfectly with my outfit today.
I hope this outfit makes up for no post yesterday. I didn’t think my outfit yesterday was good enough to put up here (that and it’s already gone up here.)
I have a job interview today. Instead of standing in front of my closet last night I browsed through these blog posts to see what I’d like to wear for the interview. This outfit blog has literally turned into a photo archive of my winter outfits. Well, the ones I’ve worn Monday-Thursday. So I picked an outfit I really liked and decided to change something about it. Instead of layering a sweater over this dress, I traded it for the vest (H&M). Hopefully this outfit brings me more luck than when I wore it to my homecoming queen nominee interview in October.
When I got the e-mail scheduling this interview (I was at work yesterday) I got really excited and realized I needed to celebrate. Rather than going out and buying a new dress, I picked up a new nail polish on my Duane Reade run. A much cheaper alternative that possibly made me happier than the new dress. Check it out, lilacism by essie.
Thank God I’m not trying to be a hand model, right??
